It’s important to keep your home security maintained to ensure its working properly every month and especially when you really need it. Testing your system and simply pressing “system status” or a status button on your panel to see if it’s reading any failures only takes a few seconds. By doing this you can see if your panel needs anything fixed.

Test Your Home Security System

Protect America offers and recommends a free home security test to all of its customers at least once a month. This test consists of actually making the alarm go off to see if a signal is reached at the monitoring station. A single signal from any of your sensors will be okay as long as when you press the status button your panel it reads system okay. Often times it is good to test every single sensor. A lot of people worry that the sound will be too loud but you can always ask your representative to turn off the sound of the siren while testing. Testing your home security system will only take a few minutes for a thorough test. By testing everything you not only ensure that its working, but it also helps keep your lifetime warranty in tact. By showing that you at least tested every month, that shows that you took care of your system.

Replacing Batteries on Your Home Security System

You will rarely every have to change the batteries on any of your equipment on any parts of your security system. The backup internal battery in the panel lasts about 3 to 5 years depending on usage. The batteries in the sensors will last about the same. Protect America offers replacement batteries when the time comes.
