Our lists are based on data from the recent FBI Uniform Crime Report. We only counted cities that submitted burglary data.


2016 North Dakota Burglary Safe Zones

  1. Beulah
    • Population 3,418, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Beulah became a city in 1914.
  2. Hazen
    • Population 2,461, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Hazen became a city in 1913.
  3. Carrington
    • Population 2,076, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: The Dakota Growers Pasta Company is located in Carrington.
  4. Oakes
    • Population 1,789, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Oaks is named after a railroad official, Thomas F. Oakes.
  5. Bowman
    • Population 1,722, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Bowman is the county seat of Bowman County.
  6. Ellendale
    • Population 1,337, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Ellendale’s claim to fame is being mentioned in Robert M. Pirsig’s “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.”
  7. Surrey

    • Town trivia: The city is named after Surrey, England.
  8. Lincoln

    • Town trivia: Lincoln was not founded until 1977.

    • Town trivia: Watford City was incorporated in 1915.
  2. Minot

    • Town trivia: After growing in size very quickly, Minot was given the title of “Magic City.”
  3. Fargo
    • Population 118,490, Burglaries 666
    • Town trivia: Fargo is known for the Academy Award winning film named after the city (though none of the film was shot in Fargo), and for a television series that’s also named after the film (the seventh episode of the television series was shot in Fargo).
  4. Dickinson
    • Population 23,564, Burglaries 126
    • Town trivia: The fictional TV series, “Blood and Oil,” is set in Dickinson.
  5. Williston
    • Population 27,324, Burglaries 146
    • Town trivia: Phil Jackson, the 11-time NBA championship coach that is also known as the “Zen Master” is from Williston.
  6. Jamestown

    • Town trivia: Jamestown is the ninth largest city in North Dakota.
  7. West Fargo
