07/27/2010 07:00am -- Last week, Charlotte Bobcats team member Stephen Jackson's home was broken into.

Not only was the NBA star's home invaded, but there was also an armed robbery with reports of three masked gunman. Jackson was not home, but his wife was. She wasn't hurt, but she was forced into a bathroom while a number of items were stolen.

ESPN columnist Jemele Hill later tweeted that this is an example of why athletes carry guns, which sparked a bit of a controversy on BleacherReport.com. Michael Schottey, a writer for the website, insisted that investing in a home security system is better than resort to using a gun for protection against a home invasion.

"Feeling safe with a gun in the home is a false sense of security that is so ignorant, so dangerous, words hardly describe it," Schottey wrote on BleacherReport.com. "A home security system with a loud, active alarm system that is also connected to a monitoring center can stop an intruder in his tracks." Schottey believes that a burglar is less likely to face off with a police officer than they would with a gun-wielding home resident.

Security systems are a worthwhile investment and are equipped to protect everyone from NBA stars to middle-class consumers.ADNFCR-3514-ID-19908147-ADNFCR
