"The majority of burglaries are carried out by opportunistic criminals who notice weak points in a property that won't take much fuss to break into, such as easily opened windows, doors and garages," Crime Prevention Products said.
Obvious access points, such as windows and doors, should be the most secure in a person's home, according to Crime Prevention Products. Keeping a residence brightly lit is also a deterrent for criminals. If a consumer wants the best protection available, they need to look into having either a wireless or hard wired home security system installed.
One cheap DIY measure is to stack pennies on top of a closed window, so that if opened, a lot of noise is made to scare off the burglar and alert the resident.
