Securing a new home

07/22/2010 01:49pm -- Buying a new home is an exciting time for consumers. While most people may be more focused on their new hardwood floors, Energy Star appliances and heated pool, they should also be concerned about how they are going to secure their new investment.

Deadbolts in standard doors often aren't much of a deterrent for burglars looking to break in to a home, according to the Wetaskiwin Times. If homeowners really want to protect their residence, family and possessions, they should seriously consider installing high-security deadbolts.

These deadbolts have "protective spin collars to prevent an intruder from twisting the lock off the door," the Wetaskiwin Times reported. They also "come with a frame reinforcement piece called a strike box – this is installed on the frame side of the lock and accepts the bolt once in the extended position."

Homeowners should also consider using door reinforcers and glass protection for windows, the Wetaskiwin Times suggested. Installing webcams and security software would also allow for personal home monitoring from a remote location.

There are a variety of security cameras that a homeowner can choose from to incorporate as part of their security system.ADNFCR-3514-ID-19903329-ADNFCR
