Consumers may be under the impression that home invaders only attack when it gets dark. However, recent reports from across the country prove that daytime break-ins are becoming more common.

Reports have been coming in from Vermont, North Carolina and Mississippi about how daytime home invasions have been increasing recently. Police in all areas have been issuing warnings to its residents to take extra precautions in safeguarding their homes.

"They're climbing through windows, removing air conditioners to get in," community policing coordinator Tim Tuttle told Vermont's Rutland Herald. "Believe it or not, in some cases people just leave their doors unlocked and they walk in," he added.

Even residents with locked doors aren't completely safe. Burglars have successfully broken into Mississippi apartments that were locked, the Madison County Journal reported. No sign of forced entry was seen.

In Greenville, North Carolina, CBS news affiliate WNTC 9 reported that 50 percent of all home invasions in the area take place during the day.

If homeowners would like to take extra precautions to protect their belongings, they should consider investing in home security systems. Apartment renters should encourage property owners to install these alarm systems as well.ADNFCR-3514-ID-19904423-ADNFCR
