Ensuring home safety while on vacation

It's normal for people to worry about the safety of their home while they are away on vacation. That's why one Oregon police force has started patrolling properties of residents that are out of town.

The Beaverton Police Department began a new service this month for local residents who will be out of town for anywhere between one and three weeks. The Vacation Check Program is free and ensures that police officers will check on a home while the occupants are away.

"Home security is a basic component of crime prevention and the police department would like to help make your vacation time worry free," a statement from the Beaverton Police Department said. "When citizens are on vacation, their homes can become a target for burglars."

This home security service is offered by police departments all over the country. Consumers should check with their local force about whether a similar program is offered.

Vacationers may want to consider taking further precautions against possible home invasions. Burglar alarms are an effective tool against preventing break-ins.ADNFCR-3514-ID-19906163-ADNFCR
