One section of a Huntsville neighborhood has been hit with a rash of home burglaries lately, according to NBC news affiliate WAFF 48 News. Two houses had their windows knocked out by burglars, and a number of others have experienced break-ins as well.
Huntsville resident Jeanetta Maddox told the news station that "we are fed up with what is going on in our neighborhood. We got strong neighbors looking out for each other, and if you are going to break into someone's house, we are going to catch you just like the police are going to catch you."
While these Alabama neighbors may be banding together to fight crime, a recent report found that just the opposite is likely to be true. Ex-burglars told interviewers that neighbors are more likely to turn a blind eye when witnessing another person's home invasion rather than report it to the police.
To prevent windows from being smashed in, consumers should consider using glass protection. They may also want to consider installing home security systems as an added buffer.
