Burglar caught on camera stealing, returning presents

Home security cameras placed outside a Staten Island home in New York City caught a burglar stealing presents from the front doorstep and returning them two days later.

According to CBS News, Mike Valloney had home security cameras installed to protect his home and fend off intruders. The retired New York Police Department detective came home and noticed a few of his packages that were on his front porch were gone.

Surveillance video revealed a man stopping in front of the house and taking the packages before putting them in a shopping cart and leaving, CBS reported.

Valloney took the video that caught the burglar to his neighborhood police department and the footage ended up on a local TV news channel, the source stated.

According to CBS, the homeowner is convinced that the burglar saw the video on the news and had a change of heart, returning the presents two days later in a bag with a note that said, "This is all I took. I'm so sorry and Happy New Year. I just want to do right for this New Year."
