Burglar caught on security cameras

A visual effects specialist recently caught a burglar on his home security cameras and alerted authorities his New York house was being burglarized.

According to the New York Post, Levent Cetiner recently had a motion detection camera installed in his top floor apartment, which emailed him photos of the intruder through an alert system.

"I was at work and suddenly I got this email with a picture showing that there was someone in my apartment," the 30-year-old Cetiner told the Post.

The intruder entered Cetiner's apartment through a window by the fire escape, the source reported. When the resident was sent photos of the intruder, he called the police and ran six blocks to his home. When he arrived, the burglar was still inside. Cetiner banged on the door, which was still locked, telling the suspect he was being taped and that the police were on the way.

The suspect fled down the fire escape, only to be trapped between two buildings, which led to his arrest, according to the Post. The suspect had packed Cetiner's iPad and laptop in a bag he found in the apartment, but left it behind when he knew the police were on the way.

New York City reported close to 18,000 burglaries in 2010, according to FBI statistics.
