A recent burglary in Cedar Grove, New Jersey, resulted in jewelry being taken from the victim's home.
There has been a rash of burglaries recently in the towns surrounding Cedar Grove, which continued with a burglar breaking into a residence January 16 and stealing an unspecified amount of jewelry, according to the Verona-Cedar Grove Times.
Jewelry has also been stolen from other homes in the area, but authorities aren't saying it's certain that the crimes are connected with the same suspect, the source reported.
"There are believed to be multiple groups," Cedar Grove Police Chief Richard Vanderstreet said to the source. "In the entire north Jersey (area), there has been a tremendous increase in volume of burglaries. We're in coordination with other towns, gathering information."
Vanderstreet believes the sudden increase in home burglaries may have something to do with the winter months providing more hours of darkness for burglars to conceal their identities.
Another home invasion in New Jersey resulted in a burglar stealing a police car in addition to jewelry, but the vehicle was recently found in the area around Teaneck, according to the North Jersey Record.
