A Shelton, Connecticut, man was recently arrested and charged in relation to a recent home invasion in which a victim was pistol-whipped.
Thirty-year-old Raymond Cardona was arrested after attempting to flee after police obtained an arrest warrant for the suspected burglary. Cardona is now being held on $500,000 bond for the charges.
Cardona allegedly broke into a home January 23 by kicking in the front door. According to the victims, Cardona was carrying a handgun and demanded valuables before pistol-whipping one of the residents. The burglar fled the scene of the crime after a brief struggle with one of the victims.
The victim of the pistol-whipping was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police believe the apartment was targeted in a random act of violence.
Authorities also charged Cardona with a failure to appear on violation of a probation warrant. Bond was set for that charge at $50,000.
Shelton reported 115 burglaries in 2010, according to FBI statistics.
