The FBI’s latest crime statistics were recently released, revealing decreases in violent and property crimes throughout Utah with the exceptions of Weber and Davis counties.
According to the FBI’s “Crime in the United States, 2010,” violent crimes have decreased for the fourth straight year and property crimes for the eighth straight year. However, Weber and Davis counties are experiencing increases in all the major property crime categories. All other northeast Utah counties, including Layton, Ogden, Roy and Kaysville, have experienced decreases in crime, but police are still concerned about citizen awareness.
"As we patrol the parking lots at the theaters, for instance, walking these parking lots it's amazing to see how many valuables, laptop computers, purses, are left in plain view on dashboards or seats," Layton Police Lt. Quinn Moyes, who heads the department’s patrol division, said to the Standard-Examiner.
According to the FBI’s 2010 report, an estimated 1.2 million violent crimes and about 9 million property crimes took place nationwide.
