Daytime burglaries on the rise

The number of daytime burglaries is on the rise in the Magnolia Grove neighborhood of Houston, causing residents to be more worried about their home security.

The burglaries have occurred typically between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., when many homeowners are at work, according to ABC affiliate KTRK.

"They're breaking in through windows, mainly in the back alley way or something like that where they are not being seen," Jim Taylor, Magnolia Civic Association member, said to KTRK.

Magnolia Grove residents have also started their own neighborhood watch programs, exchanging information through one another and using Facebook as a means of keeping in touch. In addition, the neighborhood residents "spare no expense" when it come to home security systems, the source stated.

Houston reported more than 27,000 burglaries in 2010, according to FBI statistics.
