Fayetteville police sponsoring home security clinic

Following a recent rise in home invasion crimes, Fayetteville police in North Carolina will conduct a home security clinic to encourage residents to invest in home security systems and use more caution when considering their surroundings.

The Fayetteville Observer reported that the presentation by the Fayetteville police will serve the community as well as make the department's job easier by enabling citizens to better police their own homes.

Authorities will show the public how to increase security around homes "without damaging or further changing the appearance or function" of a home, the source reported. Officials will also talk about important topics, such as choosing the right locks, teaching attendees how to pin windows, secure sliding doors, strengthen door frames and install home alarm systems.

Fayetteville reported more than 3,900 burglaries in 2010, according to FBI statistics, making it apparent why a home security clinic could provide local homeowners with invaluable information.
