A recent article in the Boston Herald analyzed the role of GPS tracking systems and discussed their usefulness in certain situations.
While many consumers are used to using GPS systems to help navigate in unknown territory, tracking systems can work similarly, finding objects instead of locations.
The article's author, for instance, tested a system to track the woman that walks her dogs. Through the tracking system, she was able to determine that the dog walker showed up at the correct time and took her dog along the agreed-upon path.
While this instance was just a test, those who place tracking systems in their cars or on other valuables can easily trace them if they were ever to be stolen.
For many tracking systems, the battery life is lengthy, meaning a user won't be turned off a trail soon after a theft occurs. The only downside to the systems are that they are not as effective when an individual is indoors.
A recent report from the National Insurance Crime Bureau found an increase in vehicle theft recently. With more GPS tracking systems being used, these burglaries could decline soon.
