A large number of Americans travel for the holidays, usually leaving their homes unattended and vulnerable to a possible burglary. However, there are now more different types of home security systems and tools which provides homeowners with many different options to protect their homes.
Alarm.com recently released a list of tips for people to use to protect their homes from intruders. The company noted that the wireless technology contained in present-day home security systems gives homeowners the opportunity to monitor their properties by using remote alarms while they are on the road. A mobile phone can now be used to control entire home security systems, and the devices allow homeowners on the road to watch footage from their security cameras right on their phones.
Another common tip for holiday travelers is to lock all the doors and windows, but with new mobile device technology, homeowners can be notified if their locked doors become unlocked.
AAA projected that 87.7 million people would be traveling 50 or more miles away from home during the holidays in 2009, and the company predicts similar numbers in 2010.
