A home security camera caught a burglar on tape as he rummaged through a Silver Spring, Maryland, home looking for valuables.
The intruder broke into the home December 26, and a resident of the neighborhood noticed and called the police. According to the neighbor, a man got out of the passenger side of a green SUV and knocked on the door of the home. When he didn't receive an answer, he kicked the door in. After the burglar took valuables from the home, he was seen running back to the SUV with his hands full of stolen property.
Twenty minutes later, authorities responded to reports of a second burglary nearby. Surveillance video showed the burglar entering the home by kicking in the front door after he knocked to see if anyone was home. The video then showed the intruder going up the stairs of the home and going through the homeowner's property.
A green SUV is also caught on the home security camera. Given the similarities between the two incidents, authorities believe the two crimes are connected.
While the home security camera may not have stopped the crime from occurring, authorities hope the footage will help bring the perpetrators to justice. A Montgomery County police spokesperson told the Washington, D.C., Fox affiliate, "Certainly this video is of very good quality and investigators are hoping that the public looks at this video and someone out there does recognize this suspect."
Another home invasion that occurred recently in Silver Spring resulted in the homeowner being shot in his foot by the intruder, according to the news source Gazette.net.
