According to a report from WEAU 13 News in Wisconsin, locals living in Eau Claire have increased their home security efforts following a recent rash of criminal activity including break-ins.
A significant number of burglaries occurred between Chetek and the Coulee region, which prompted residents to contact local home security companies to help install better devices to protect their residences.
"In the crime wave that has been going on for a few months now, that always seems to create and uptick of alarmed customers," Chris Lokken, a customer service manager for a local security company, told the news source. "They want to protect their family, their possessions in their homes. A good way to do that is with a security system."
Among the most popular devices being used by locals are monitored alarm systems as well as video cameras.
In addition, security companies have placed their signs on the lawns of customers to deter any potential criminals.
"Our first line of defense is our signage. A great many would-be criminals would be threatened by that and wouldn’t want to break in," Lokken told WEAU 13 News.
In addition to new security systems, Lake Hallie police chief Cal Smokowisz advised homeowners to use dead bolt locks and motion-detector lights to prevent break-ins.
