Late October crime wave hits more than a dozen LA neighborhoods

Crime surged in 15 Los Angeles neighborhoods between October 20 and 26, according to figures tracked by the Los Angeles Times.

Gramercy Park saw a spike in property crimes. The neighborhood averages 5.9 property crimes a week, but experienced 12 during the week in question, the Times reported. Three burglaries were among these crimes. Two of the burglaries occurred along the neighborhood's western border, on the 9100 block of South Van Ness and the 2100 block of Century Boulevard, while the other burglary happened in the northeast part of Gramercy, on the 8700 block of Denker.

Cypress Park experienced a marked increase in violent crimes between October 20 and 26, with four violent crime reports compared to an average of 1.2 per week for that neighborhood, the Times stated. Three of these reports were for aggravated assault, with two of the incidents occurring on the 3300 block of Merced Avenue.

East Hollywood continues to be hard-hit by crime, reporting 18 violent crimes and 17 property crimes for the period being considered, according to the Times. In the past six months, East Hollywood has seen 263 violent crimes and 677 property crimes - disturbingly high figures that might prompt residents to increase home security.

In North Hollywood, an 85-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint on Halloween by two suspects who she invited into her home for a glass of water, according to a Los Angeles Police Department report.
