Homeowners in Ocean View, Maryland, are turning their attention to acquiring a home security system after burglaries in Sussex County have increased.
Ocean View resident Jerry Kappes had been delaying installing some form of home security, opting to ask neighbors and friends to check in on his house while he was away on vacation. However, he recently had a security system installed to give him more peace of mind while he was away, Delmarva Now reported.
"With all that we heard recently about home invasions in and around the county, we thought it might be a good idea to make that move (to a security system)," the Ocean View resident said to the source. "It's for peace of mind as much as anything."
According to the Office of Management and Budget Statistical Analysis Center, in conjunction with the State Bureau of Identification, the number of burglaries in the area increased between 2005-2008. The Delaware State Police also recently reported a 4 percent increase in the number of burglaries from 2010 to 2011, which is causing alarm for many residents.
The source reported that local businesses are beginning to see residents invest in home security solutions. Ocean View residents, as well as homeowners elsewhere who are concerned about security, might consider advanced wireless alarm systems or traditional home security systems.
According to Delmarva Now, five suspects were recently charged in a string of burglaries that have occurred throughout the Ocean View area since June.
