With wireless alarms and traditional alarm systems becoming more popular because of the extra peace of mind they provide, Americans are beginning to invest more in their safety.
Ann Hoke, a columnist for Tennessee newspaper the Murfreesboro Post, spoke to Henry Horton, a security expert who said that home alarm systems are among the most easily installed and cost-efficient forms of protection out there, often lowering insurance premiums. New technology in home security systems provide a range of options to be sure homeowners are always one step ahead of burglars.
Horton said that alarm systems can be hard-wired or wireless and can be connected with a round-the-clock monitoring center. He also pointed out that many alarm systems double as fire and carbon monoxide detectors.
Horton's points were echoed by Ken Mara, a security expert based in New York.
“New technology found in alarm systems can perform more than just alerts of a security breach or fire," said Mara. "Systems come with basic to advanced features to monitor the dwelling's environment, including temperature changes indicating the heat is off or a flood, control lighting and much more."
Horton and Mara pointed out that home security technology is multi-purpose, but new innovations could take this aspect of security systems to new levels. At the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, a company demonstrated how consumers can monitor and control home security - doing everything from unlocking doors to programming lights - via a system synced to a smartphone, reported The New York Times.
