Police urge alarm installations, Rocklin burglaries decrease

After receiving reports that there was a 20 percent increase in residential burglaries in the last quarter of 2011 when compared to 2010, Rocklin, California, residents were encouraged to update their alarm systems.

The Placer Herald reported that after police urged residents to install home security systems and maintain vigilance when it comes to securing their homes, Rocklin police reported only one home burglary in the week ending January 14.

The only burglary that occurred was on January 12, when a purse and electronics were stolen from a garage when a door was left open, the source reported.

“I can’t help to feel that we may have had zero residential burglaries if the garage door would have closed,” Rocklin Police Lieutenant Lon Milka said to the Herald. “It’s difficult to run stats from week-to-week for trends, but we are happy about only one.”

Residents were encouraged to install wireless security systems after the 20 percent jump in crime was reported. Consumers can take advantage of new home security technologies, such as a vibration sensitive alarm that senses the slightest vibration on the window pane and issues an alert, the source stated.

Rocklin reported 215 burglaries in 2010, according to FBI statistics.
