Public official urges residents to invest in home security

A Bourbonnais, Illinois, man who was a police officer for 17 years and is now running for state representative recently encouraged residents of Bourbonnais to invest in a home security system, given what he's seen as a police officer and resident of the city.

The candidate, Glenn Nixon, who was also a community council member, said that the economic downturn led to unemployment among many residents and a higher crime rate, which made many of the town's families unsafe.

With all that Nixon has seen in the city, he believes having an advanced home security system will keep residents one step ahead of burglars trying to take advantage of them.

“Law enforcement plays a critical role protecting neighborhoods,” said Nixon. “However, we also rely on the good judgment of citizens to do their part. By investing in a smart home system with great security features, they can help keep their own families and homes safe, and contribute to the well-being of the larger community as well.”

Bourbonnais, Illinois, reported 49 burglaries in 2010, according to FBI statistics.
