A recent breakout of burglaries in Staten Island, New York, has local officials and residents brainstorming alternate ways to keep homes safe.
Some of the residents that have been broken into have reliable home security systems, but a work-around that burglars are now finding has homeowners scrambling to find upgrades to their security systems, reported local news source SILive.com.
"The risk of burglaries is heightened during this time of year, as homes fill with holiday gift purchases," Steve Coppola, an expert in home security, told the source. "Unfortunately, even the most seemingly secure home may be vulnerable to burglars."
Coppola added that intruders can cut telephone lines and disable an alarm's signal path to the central station. The source reported that Coppola recommended a top notch radio transmitter to solve this problem.
According to SILive.com, most homeowners underutilize or aren't aware of top quality radio-transmission systems that may be the best options for home security.
New York City reported close to 18,000 burglaries in 2010, according to FBI statistics.
