Saginaw police gearing up for new surveillance cameras

A new, high-tech system of security cameras is ready to go in Saginaw, Michigan, according to local police.

Recently, city officials installed 54 high-definition security cameras around the Michigan burg. Currently, police are still testing the equipment to discover the extent of its capabilities, but soon the system will be fully online, according to Saginaw News.

The cameras can be rotated and zoomed, and are capable of reading a license plate from 400 feet away, police officials told the News. Coupled with highly sensitive microphones also placed around the city, police hope to be able to cut down their response time, and even catch criminals in the act.

Many cities are experimenting with high-tech security systems, but homeowners looking for some security of their own can find smaller scale versions. Modern home security systems, like their municipal counterparts, go well beyond the simple burglar alarm, and often also include high-definition security cameras.
