A home security camera mounted on an Austin, Texas, home captured three men breaking into a car around 11:30 p.m. on January 15.
The suspects broke the driver's side window and stole the GPS system out of the vehicle before fleeing the scene of the crime, local NBC affiliate KXAN reported.
One of several cameras mounted to the home caught three men looking into cars on the block before they were out of view. When an alarm began to go off, suspected to be the vehicle they broke into, the camera caught them running back, according to the source.
KXAN stated an officer came to the scene of the crime to review the surveillance video and was able to match the description through a two-way radio of the vehicle with one that was stopped on an expressway.
The car owner had their GPS system returned and five men were taken into custody, one being a juvenile. Authorities said the trunk of the vehicle was full of merchandise that was thought to be stolen.
In a separate case, two men were recently arrested in West Austin for their involvement in a deadly home invasion that occurred in early December, KENS TV reported.
