Security camera footage leads to burglary arrest

A Sonoma Valley, California, man has been arrested and implicated in a string of burglaries after being filmed by security monitoring cameras.

Owners of a Sonoma body shop telephoned police on January 25 after discovering evidence of a break-in. Small items, including sunglasses, a battery charger and $40 cash had been stolen along with the keys for a number of cars, according to Sonoma News.

After reviewing surveillance camera footage provided by the body shop, local police recognized the intruder as 38-year-old Dominic Portelli of Sonoma. At the time, Portelli was already on probation, the news source reported.

Upon his arrest, missing items from the body shop were discovered in Portelli's home, the News stated. Bail has been set at $30,000.

There were 51 robberies and 597 burglaries in Sonoma during 2009, the most recent year data is available from the FBI.
