Security cameras lead to burglary arrest in Arizona

One Litchfield Park, Arizona, burglar is behind bars after his crime was recorded by the home security system at the home he robbed.

The home's owner, Nick, who told KNXV-TV that he didn't want to use his full name, came home to find that his house had been broken into and his television had been stolen. When police arrived on the scene, he told them about security cameras mounted on the house, which had picked up the burglar as he broke in.

Officers told the station that the video was critical in arresting a suspect in the case, who now faces three felonies. Security experts said that sometimes the existence of cameras is enough to prevent crimes from happening in the first place.

"If somebody actually goes to a house and they see cameras pointing at them, red lights on, they're going to think twice about going in there," home security professional Matt Terry told the station. "If they do break in you actually get to catch them. You have the video evidence."

The town, which is located near Glendale, Arizona, is traditionally a very safe area. The Glendale News-Press reports that the city was ranked No. 7 on the list of the safest cities in the country for its size.ADNFCR-3514-ID-19937662-ADNFCR
