Security linked to lower crime statistics

According to The Cooperator, recent nationwide statistics show that New York City and its surrounding suburbs has become one of the safest metro areas of its size over the past 15 years as a result of heightened home security.

Advanced technology in security systems at homes and residential buildings have led to lower occurrences of crimes in the New York City area and New Jersey, the source stated as Americans are beginning to keep track of their homes through technology such as their cellphones and computers.

“People are either interested in security or they’re not," said Harry Squasoni, a home security professional based  in Long Island City. "There are plenty of options out there for a condo or co-op to better protect their building. Most buildings still have keys, which is the worst security alive.”

Security cameras have also improved with the advancement of technology, providing privacy, security and convenience to residents across the country. Other forms of technology are also upping home security across the country, which was evident in Chicago recently, where a stolen laptop captured a photo of the suspected thieves and, due to an application, posted the image to Facebook.
