Strong door frames can help prevent burglaries

As the economy continues to struggle, some areas have seen an increase in burglaries and home invasions. But while home security systems can help deter many burglars, and ensure others are caught, a strong door frame is also important to help prevent those crimes.

Citing FBI statistics, Door Security Pro says that in a vast majority of home invasions, the door frame fails to hold up to criminals' attempts to kick in or break down the door, because many of of those frames are made up of soft woods, such as pine or fir, that can't take the strain.

To prevent that issue, homeowners can either check to make sure that their door frame is of solid construction, and, if necessary, add reinforcing material, such as steel, to help ensure than the entryway isn't vulnerable.

However, many homeowners fail to take even the simplest steps to prevent burglaries. A recent check of homes by police in Mechanicville, New York, found that more than 60 homeowners hadn't even locked their doors to prevent illegal entry, the Troy Record reports.
