Video from a home surveillance system recently led Alaska State Troopers to arrest two suspects in a Wasilla home burglary. According to the Anchorage Press, the homeowners turned the video surveillance footage over to troopers after discovering their home had been broken into. Electronic equipment and a laptop were stolen.
"It's very scary," one of the homeowners told Anchorage NBC affiliate KTUU. "You feel like you've been violated."
Approximately 24 hours later, the suspects were arrested after a state trooper recognized their car from still images of the video surveillance footage that had been circulating among investigators, the Anchorage Press reports. The video surveillance footage was a critical component of finding the suspects, troopers said.
Although it was initially reported that the suspects were identified after images from the home surveillance system went viral on Facebook, it is now clear that the stills were posted online after the arrest of the suspects. However, it was images from the home surveillance footage that allowed the state trooper to identify and arrest the two burglary suspects.
