Teen caught stealing firearm on home security camera

A teenage repeat offender was apprehended and forced to return a stolen firearm to its rightful owner after being identified on footage from the victim's home security camera.

A Williston, Florida, man contacted police January 30 to report the theft of a loaded SKS rifle, according to a report from the Gainesville Sun. The intruder had entered through a window and left with the rifle wrapped in a blanket.

Police, working with a school resource officer, were able to identify the culprit as a 17-year-old, three-time convicted felon. Officers arrested the juvenile delinquent on January 31.

In Florida, the most commonly committed felony offense by juveniles is burglary, according to the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. There were 11,831 delinquency referrals in the state during the 2009-2010 fiscal year.
