Ways to increase home security

It is estimated that 11 percent of thefts reported are linked to a home invasion, according to RealHomeSafety.com. With a number so high, home security is an important aspect of daily living. The Creston News Advertiser of Creston, Iowa, recently published some tips for homeowners to beef up their home security.

Creston News suggested getting some form of a security system in addition to taking other precautions in order to heighten safety.

"As seasons change, homeowners' routines change along with them," the article stated. "Whether it's children coming in and out of the house more frequently between school and activities, or service workers helping to get home repairs done before the holidays, you want to ensure safe and controlled access when you're not available."

The report also encouraged homeowners to go keyless by getting an electronic setup to access homes, and to use motion sensors so homes aren't always dark when someone is approaching.

The report stated closed blinds and curtains are a more welcoming sight to a burglar, as opposed to keeping them open.
