  • Rape, Kidnapping Charges Filed Against Sex Offender

February 09, 2007 (Bentonville, AR) – Prosecutor Van Stone filed formal charges of kidnapping, rape and being a habitual offender Friday against a Rogers man who is a Level 3 registered sex offender on parole.

George Lynn Perez, 30, of 14388 Pleasant Ridge Road, is to be arraigned March 5 before Benton County Circuit Judge Tom Keith. Perez remains in jail on $500,000 bond.

Police arrested Perez on Jan. 25, after a 10-year-old girl gave a detailed description of a man grabbing her, dragging her behind a storage building and molesting her -- all on school property -- a little after 7 a.m.

The girl, who was walking to catch a bus at Eastside Elementary School to take her to school at Old Wire Elementary School, immediately called her parents after the incident and gave Rogers police enough details about her abductor they shortly considered Perez a suspect.

She described a Hispanic male who spoke English fluently, without a discernible accent. She thought he was in his 20s, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, with dark hair shorter than his collar. His van, she said, was fairly late-model, dark gray with shaded windows. She remembered a red, "puffy coat," dark pants and gray/green gloves, according to a probable cause affidavit issued by Capt. Ron Largent of Rogers Police.

The man warned her, "If you don't do what I say, I'll hurt you really bad." After fondling her, he thought he heard someone coming and released her, she told police.

Police knew about Perez, a Level 3 sex offender convicted in 2005 of sexual indecency with a 10-year-old child. He's also been convicted twice of indecent exposure, financial identity fraud, residential burglary and first-degree sexual abuse.

Within hours, police had talked to Perez's employer about what time Perez got off work and what he wore. They located a similar minivan in Perez's driveway and gathered a photo lineup of six Hispanic males. The girl pointed out Perez, saying his nose was the same -- but she wasn't sure he was the man who abducted her, who was thinner.

Police found Perez at home, where he lives with his wife, children and other relatives. The residence is within a six-minute drive of the elementary school, the affidavit said. He was wearing a red Razorback coat -- and police found gray/green colored gloves laying beside the driver's seat in his van. Perez gave them an alibi but it couldn't be verified.

His wife, Jennifer, told police her husband ran an errand that morning and returned home between 7:15 and 7:20 a.m., the affidavit states.

Perez, who works nights driving a parking-lot sweeper, is also known by the nickname "Bo," according to the affidavit.
