- Four face kidnapping charges
March 12, 2007 (Campbellsville, KY) –
Four people have been indicted on charges alleging that they kidnapped a juvenile and held him for ransom.
Jeremy Lynn Hollins, 27, of 315 Handley Ave., William J. Miller, 21, of 436 N. Poplar St., and Sidney Shively, 18, of 266 Smith Ridge Road, all in Campbellsville, and Deshawn M. "Trey" Howlett, 27, whose last known address is Louisville, were indicted Tuesday by a Taylor County grand jury.
The defendants were each charged with kidnapping, first-degree burglary and first-degree robbery. Hollins was also charged with being a first-degree persistent felony offender. Howlett was also charged with being a second-degree persistent felony offender.
According to a report from the Taylor County Sheriff's Department, four armed people entered a home on Whispering Meadows Drive at about 1:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 15 and demanded money from a male juvenile.
After an altercation, the perpetrators kidnapped the 17-year-old juvenile and took his vehicle to a location on Old Greensburg Road. From there, they called the juvenile's father and demanded money in exchange for his son.
The father notified Campbellsville Police and later met the perpetrators. At that point, the juvenile escaped and got into his father's vehicle.
Bond for Hollins was set at $200,000 cash. Bond for Miller was set at $25,000 cash. Bond for Shively was set at $10,000 cash. Bond for Howell was set at $100,000 cash.
If convicted, the defendants could be sentenced to as much as 60 years in prison. The charge of being a persistent felony offender could increase any sentence Hollins and Howlett might receive.
