  • Gun-firing intruders crash through door in latest Columbus home invasion

June 19, 2007 (Columbus, GA) – Two armed, masked men smashed their way into a Columbus home early this morning, fired their weapons and made off with cash and other items in the latest local home invasion incident. Edward Wilson, 28, and Teresa Wilson, 42, were asleep in their 7 Upatoi Drive home about 3:45 a.m. when they were awakened by a loud noise, said Columbus Police Lt. Mark D. Starling.

Two intruders with handguns, wearing dark clothing and ski masks, confronted the Wilsons and demanded money.

"They busted down the front door," said Starling, "and for some reason, perhaps to scare the residents, fired a shot into the floor in the front room. A shot was also fired into the bedroom door."

The two men, both of medium build, got cash from the home as well as a cell phone and PlayStation.

"The men were seen getting into a tan-colored, late-model Lincoln," said Starling.

There were no injuries.

Police are investigating.
