  • Police Investigate Home Invasion, Resident's Death

August 10, 2007 (Lancaster, PA) – A home invasion in Lancaster City ended with the resident dead and a suspect chased to Columbia.

It started at a home on the 500 block of Lafayette Street about 9:30 p.m. Thursday night.

Police received a call for a robbery from a woman inside the house.

When police arrived, they found a male who was taken to Lancaster General Hospital and pronounced dead.

Police said a woman in the home at the time of the robbery was able to give a description of the robbers and a vehicle.

A vehicle fitting that description was spotted by a police officer about an hour after the robbery and the police officer chased the suspect along Route 30.

East Hempfield police used stop sticks to deflate the vehicle's tires.

The suspect continued driving the car into Columbia, where the car hit a telephone pole.

The driver was taken to Lancaster General Hospital with minor injuries.

An autopsy is planned for the resident, but police said there were no obvious signs of trauma.

Police said this was not a random act of violence, adding that the residents knew their attackers.
