  • Home invasion sparks charges

August 17, 2007 (Enfield, MA) – A 21-year old Chicopee man has been charged by police with attempted murder and other charges following a home invasion on Tuesday.

William V. Marks, 621 Chicopee St., was held in lieu of $1 million bail on Wednesday in Enfield Superior Court, a clerk said.

Police said Marks broke into a Washington Road home and was attempting to open a safe when the homeowner returned.

Marks, brandishing a handgun, demanded that the safe be opened and a struggle ensued. Marks pulled the trigger several times, but the weapon failed to fire, and he ran into nearby woods, police said.

Police ultimately captured Marks, and he was arrested on charges of attempt to commit a capital felony - murder, first-degree robbery, third-degree larceny, first-degree burglary and possession of a handgun without a permit.

The homeowner was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and taken to a medical facility for further evaluation and treatment, police said.
