  • Home invasion, kidnapping fail; shots fired into condo

August 31, 2007 (Manatee, FL) – After a failed kidnapping and home invasion early this morning, a frustrated gunman fired six shots into a condominium in the 5300 block of 26th Street West, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Two males in dark clothing grabbed a woman as she attempted to walk up the stairs of the building. When the resident of the condominium heard her scream shortly after midnight, he looked outside and saw one of the men running up the stairs toward him.

He slammed and locked the door. When the woman who was being abducted and her captor fell to the ground, she was able to escape, according to a sheriff's report. The two males then fled on foot.

About two hours later, someone fired six rounds into the building and then fled in a newer model red Cavalier.

The two incidents are related, investigators said.

No one was injured.
