  • Gunshot cuts home invasion short

November 12, 2007 (Savannah, GA) – Four men were still at large Friday night after a home invasion mysteriously was cut short.

The unidentified victim told Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police that she was getting her children ready for their baths when she heard a loud noise at the back of her house in the 4300 block of Crane Street.

But, the woman said, she was not alarmed because she thought her boyfriend might have caused the noise.

Then, after hearing another loud noise from the front of the house, the woman saw three men enter the home, according to the police report. She attempted to close the door, but a man with a gun forced it open.

After the intruder told her not to look at his face, the woman said, she heard a single gunshot outside the house, and the suspects then fled from the home.

The woman followed the three intruders outside and heard a man, whom she identified only as Mike, say he knew the home-invasion victim and her man.

After the fourth individual fled from the scene, the victim and her children went to a neighbor's and called police.

Responding officers found a single .40 caliber shell casing in front of the residence, the police report stated.

The woman told police that several things were missing after the intruders fled, including her purse, containing $200 in cash, her driver's license and her credit cards. She also said a pair of shoes and a digital camera were missing.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 651-6676 or CrimeStoppers at 234-2020.
