Are you going on an extended trip or a short vacation? The periods during which you are away from home are the times you need protection the most. An important step to put on your checklist is to call us at Protect America to tell us about your travelling schedule. We will make a note on your account that you are not home, and we can even put down special instructions on how we should proceed during this period if our monitoring station gets a notification that your property has potentially been breached.
How it Works
The process is simple. Call our customer care line at 1-800-951-5111. Tell them the dates that you are leaving and returning home. That’s all you need to do! If you have any special requests as to how the monitoring center should proceed if your security system is triggered.
Here are some common considerations that you should think about before calling in:
- Will you have access to your usual cell phone? If you are travelling out of the country, you may not be able to take calls from your cell phone. This is important information to tell the care specialist when you are on the phone with them.
- Will you be using another phone? Sometimes, it can be more cost effective to buy a cheap phone in the country you’re visiting with a pay-by-minute plan. Is there a way you can tell us that number? Either in advance or once you get the phone?
- Think about the people on your emergency contact list. Chances are, if it’s a holiday or popular travelling season, they may be on vacation, too! It’s a good idea to call around before the travelling season starts to see if anyone’s going to be out of town at the same time you are. Let the care specialist know when you call in so that they can reorder some of the contacts on your list. If you have other contacts that you would like to temporarily put on the list during your vacation, simply give their phone numbers to us during your call.
- Is there anyone that you have scheduled to go into your home during your trip? (housekeepers, pet sitters, etc) Their position and contact information would be useful to provide in the case of an emergency as well.
Travel safely with peace of mind this season! Give us a call once your vacation plans are solidified at 1-800-951-5111.
