The world of home security has been ever-changing since the revolution of home automation. With technology constantly evolving, protecting your home has become more convenient and affordable than ever. Security and home automation companies continue to offer new products that push the boundaries of protecting your home. With so many options on the market however, it can be hard to choose a security product that is right for you. Thankfully, we are here to help. In this iCamera Keep Pro review, we will breakdown the pros and cons of the device to help determine if its right for you.

iSmartAlarm Products

As tech giants such as Google and Amazon break into the world of home security, it’s only fitting Apple does as well. From the California start-up, iSmartAlarm, users are able to control their security system from their iPhone. iSmartAlarm offers products such as motion sensors, door and window sensors, cameras and even smart plugs. All the devices connect to their central hub, CubeOne, which is controlled by a Remote Tag as well as a smart phone. They also offer a Satellite Siren that loudly notifies of intruders with 110 decibels. Although you are able to purchase their products separately, they also offer packages and bundles for specific purposes. The Shield package includes 8 Contact Sensors, 7 Motion Sensors and 3 Remote Tags but no camera. Alternatively, the Pan & Tilt Smart Home Video bundle offers 2 Contact Sensors, a Motion Sensor, 2 Remote Tags and an iCamera Keep. Although all the packages include a CubeOne hub, none include the iCamera Keep Pro.

iCamera Keep Pro Capabilities

While iSmartAlarm offers four different cameras, the iCamera Keep Pro is their premier indoor camera product. The frame and video resolution is impressive with 1080p that offers a sharp and clear image. It also has a 140-degree field of view as well as 33 feet of night vision with a pair of LEDs. It has motion and sound detection, an image sensor, pan and tilt. It’s able to automatically start recording and follow a person when it detects someone in view with a motion-tracking and event-triggering feature. It has an SD card slot for up to 32GB of local storage but unlike most DIY cameras, the iCamera Keep Pro also offers free cloud storage which can hold up to 30 clips. The front of the camera has a microphone and the back is equipped with a speaker that allows for two-way communication. The iCamera Keep Pro’s capabilities are on par with essentially any other camera on the market.

The iCamera Keep Pro is monitored and controlled using the iSmartAlarm app. With the app, users are able to view a live stream, control the pan and tilt, create and view a time-lapse, capture photos and partake in two-way communication. While these features are fairly common in any home security camera, the iSmartAlarm app has received plenty of negative feedback with a 2.2 out of 5 rating on Apple’s iTunes App Store. One review titled, “Slowest company,” mentions:

“You know apple contacts these developers and helps them get their apps up to snuff before major updates or new hardware releases so they’re ready to go at launch but somewhere along the way iSmartAlarm dropped the ball. What good is a security system if I can’t use it? On top of that the cameras cut out constantly and don’t record half the stuff that should set the alarm off. I’ve finally had enough with this company.”

The pan and tilt capabilities are also considerably sluggish compared to its competition and at $148.99, the iCamera Keep Pro is priced higher than most other security cameras on the market. While most of its capabilities and features hold-up against other cameras in its class, the high price doesn’t justify what it offers.

A Better Option

Although a DIY home security system has its draws, it can also create more trouble than it’s worth.
