Wyze Labs has released their newest version the Wyze Cam, their home security camera under the name Wyze Cam v2. Now, the Wyze Cam v2 will be Alexa-compatible and live recordings can be viewed on any Alexa-enabled device with a screen.

What’s new with the Wyze Cam v2?

A new Motion Tagging feature has been added that allows the user to better understand what triggered the Wyze Cam’s motion detector during live streams and replays of previously recorded clips. In addition, the overall quality of the video has been improved and is now a clean 1080p, with upgraded audio capabilities due to a new Class-K audio power amplifier as well to match it. In terms of the hardware, the Wyze Cam v2 will have a non-reflective matte finish, changing from its original glossy paint job.

The Wyze Cam v2 also features 3-axis movability, allowing users to reposition the camera, rotate it the direction it faces, or raise and lower the camera itself, increasing the areas and range the camera can cover in various areas of the home.

Wyze’s popular features carry over into the v2

Like many other smart camera options, the Wyze Cam supports live streaming capabilities so the user can view real-time updates captured by the camera. This mode also allows users to take screenshots or screen recordings of live videos.

When it comes to video storage and accessibility, Wyze users are still able to access two weeks of video recordings triggered by motion detection. Note that the Wyze cam motion detection is better than its predecessor. In addition, videos are still encrypted and can be saved to the cloud for longer storage. Users also have the option of inserting a microSD card if they want to record and save video at all times, and the Wyze Cam automatically overwrites the oldest data entries if the card becomes full.

A unique feature found in the Wyze Cam that will be carried into the Wyze Cam v2 is the ability for the camera to recognize the sound of fire or carbon monoxide detectors, upon which the camera will send the user an alert via their mobile phone.

Finally, another major continuation for the Wyze Cam v2 is the low price of $20, the same as the original version. The Wyze Cam is now available for purchase.

The Wyze Cam v2 is certainly a great deal with many important features, especially for the price.
