Peak Alarm Company is a home security business that focuses on serving the intermountain area. They have been in business since 1969 and currently have 5 branches serving the following states:

  • Utah
  • Wyoming
  • Nevada
  • Idaho

From the very early stages of the company, Peak owned their own UL certified central station, meaning they monitor all their accounts in-house. But while they are well established in the region, they fall short in areas such as warranty and affordable pricing.

The Packages

Peak Alarm Company provides two different packages for the customer to choose from: The Traditional Plan and The Budget Plan. The Traditional Plan and The Budget plan are almost exactly the same in hardware. They each comes with 3 sensors, a motion detector, a panel and a key fob. However, the monitoring type is what makes the difference. The Traditional Plan is landline-based, and must be professionally installed. It is is a much more in-depth process and requires physical wires to be ran through the home. The Budget Plan is cellular-based and can be set-up instantly at home without help from professional technicians. The Budget plan comes with a touchscreen panel and the Traditional Plan comes with a Honeywell central panel. The other major difference between these two plans is the pricing and up-front costs.

The Price of the Packages

Each package comes with a 3-year contract agreement. The main difference in the packages, other than the type of monitoring it focuses around is the price per month as well as the up-front costs. The Traditional Plan costs about $30 a month in monitoring. This is in addition to the $300 installation and activation fees for landline monitoring. For the same exact plan with arguably better equipment, Protect America can offer you landline monitoring for as low as $19.99 a month. Protect America provides free equipment without any up-front costs.

For a little less money up-front, you can choose Peak Alarm Company’s Budget Plan. The Budget plan is cellular monitoring only, and installation is DIY. Regardless, they still charge around $100 in up-front fees and an additional $40 a month in monitoring costs. For the same plan with more equipment, you can choose Protect America. Protect America provides 3 different types of monitoring options. For the cellular or broadband monitoring plan, we charge just a couple dollars more at $41.99, but we won’t make you throw down a large chunk of change to get up and running. Instead, we provide free equipment and offer the longest warranty you’ll find in the industry.

The Very Short Warranty

Each package offered by Peak Alarm Company requires a 36-month contract from the date of signing. 36-months is standard contract length for most alarm companies. The most notable problem with Peak’s service is that they only provide a 90-day labor warranty and a one-year parts warranty, which is the government minimum.  With the contract being a minimum of 3 years, this leaves the customer in a potentially poor situation. It should be noted that the customer can add on insurance to their account at the cost of an increased monthly balance. Protect America offers a lifetime warranty for all products.

Not all alarm companies are equal when it comes to the quality and skill they promise. Choosing a national home security company means choosing experience and stability. If the local or regional guys like Peak Alarm Company go out of business, what do you end up with? No service, no warranty, and a lot of wasted time. Protect America has a large customer base and a wealth of experience. Whatever your needs, we can help you.
