For many families, it’s an annual tradition to hop in their vehicle for a drive around the city to find the homes and neighborhoods that do Christmas lights and decorations the best.

These festive decorations may be a unique lighting setup with holiday characters around the yard, or the celebration may even include a light show that’s synchronized with music.

This trend is so popular that ABC had a reality show “The Great Christmas Light Fight TV Show,” where three neighborhoods competed for a $50,000 grand prize to see who had the best home. And according to Business Insider, in 2011 Americans spent $6 billion on Christmas decorations.

So, before Christmas arrives and your neighborhood goes “Silent Night,” here are five homes that deserve to be mentioned on any list for houses with the best Christmas lights:

1. One Buffalo Christmas Lights

This Christmas lights display is one of the shorter and simpler ones on our list, but not without putting on an incredible show.

Pro football commentator, Chris Berman, even makes an audio appearance in this Christmas lights show inspired by the NFL’s Buffalo Bills football team.

2. Christmas Lights Alamogordo, NM

This home from Alamogordo, New Mexico, is featured on our list for it’s display of various Christmas themed memorabilia and characters, all lighting up the front yard.

Families stop by to get their photos taken with the cast of Christmas characters, including Santa, a nativity scene and Hello Kitty. There’s sure to be a Christmas character for everyone.

3. Keener’s Christmas – Best Christmas Lights Display

The Keener’s home in Bothell, Washington, features a long driveway that guides you through the display, almost like a home version of a trail of lights.

The blue and turquoise strands, mixed with Christmas reds, whites and the usual cast of holiday characters, creates a comforting and warm display.

4. 2015 Johnson Family Dub-Step Christmas Light Show – Featured on ABC’s The Great Christmas Light Fight

This home in Atlanta, Georgia, by the Johnson Family knows how to blend sounds with a light show.

Touted as the “Dub-step Christmas Light show,” this home combines a unique light display with the sounds of dub-step music. In this video it feels like dub-step was invented just for Christmas light shows.

5. “Let It Go” (Frozen) Christmas Lights Show 2014, as Seen on Great Christmas Light Fight

Rounding out our list is this Frozen inspired home, not only for how awesome the light show itself is, but for incorporating one of the more popular children’s films of the last few years.

This home features the popular “Let It Go” song from the film Frozen, and uses a life-sized model guitar, keyboard and a drum-set. Children and families alike are sure to love this one.

A quick scan of Youtube will reveal a number of homes that have taken holiday celebrations into their own hands and gone above and beyond.
