Everything’s bigger in Hollywood, including the home security devices. The rich and famous need home security just as much as everyone else, and some of them go to great lengths to make sure their homes are impenetrable to protect themselves and their families.
According to CNN, Aaron Cohen, a former member of the Israeli Counter Terrorist Special Forces Unit, is now the director of IMS Security in Hollywood. He works with high-profile celebs and families, including supermodel Kate Moss.
CNN and Cohen say that it can cost nearly half a million dollars for residential protection and surveillance. That includes 24 hour security monitoring with a constant stream of network cams and another half a million in costs can be added if a celeb travels, because guards will have to be paid $500 to $1000 dollars a day for their services.
Many celebs have private security teams, and many of them live in SAFE systems, a housing complex in LA that solely serves celebrities in the city.
Many of these high-tech celebrity safe homes have features like bullet proof walls, windows and ceilings, gas blankets that are dropped on intruders, and panic rooms. Some of these homes resemble the stealth and spy homes that you’d usually see these celebrities playing in film, rather than their real life housing.
One Hyde Park is another luxury housing location in London that was built solely for the richest of the world. This complex houses executives, royalty, oligarchs and others, all for $165 million a piece.
Celebrities sure do live in some well-protected properties. We’ve put together a list of five celebrities who have the best home surveillance situations:
1. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
This former couple had one of the most security-equipped homes there is. The house was equipped with SAS (Special Air Service) officers that were there to guard their French home. These security guards are from the United Kingdom and some of the most elite soldiers in the world.
Their security system was worth $235 million and had cameras that were linked to motion-triggered TV screens that could be controlled wireless so as to never be shut off by an intruder.
Some parts of the home were only able to be accessed via digital fingerprint recognition technology, and the couple is said to have paid about 1 to 1.4 million dollars every single year in security fees. And their security guards were even paid $500 to $1,000 a day while they were away from the home with the couple.
2. 50 Cent
This famous rapper resides in Farmington, Conn. in a house with 52 bedrooms that was once owned by boxer, Mike Tyson. 50 Cent’s home security costs him about $20,000 per week, which ends up a total price of nearly one million dollars a year.
It’s said that the rapper has cameras that cover every inch of his home.
3. Tom Cruise
This A-List celebrity is truly on the A-List. He may even be his own list with the level of fame and notoriety he has reached. Almost anyone knows who Tom Cruise is.
At Cruise’s home, his security is so great that staff members that work at the house can only access designated “zones” that he has created. They can’t enter parts of the home that they aren’t assigned to work in and they are restricted from such areas.
The estate manager and head of security are the only people who have access to his entire house.
4. Bill Gates
The former CEO and founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, is the richest man in the world. So it doesn’t come as a surprise that he is a big spender when it comes to security. His complex outside of Seattle (which actually sits on an island and almost looks like a jungle home) has some of the more advanced security features in the world.
Whenever Gates travels in public, he continues to be equipped with security. He began bringing body guards along with him after an incident in 1999 when someone threw a pie at him. This isn’t uncommon, many other CEO’S including Michael Dell of Dell, Larry Ellison of Oracle, Howard Shultz of Starbucks, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, and Leslie Wexner of Limited Brands all travel with security.
5. Beyonce and Jay-Z
Another power couple has worked their way onto our list, world-renowned rapper and pop artists, Beyonce and Jay-Z.
This couple has hired a full-time security team to keep watch of their home in the Garden District of New Orleans. The spend approximately $4 million each year to protect themselves, their home, and their daughter.
An on-site security guard sits in their driveway at all times, and this was even taking place before the couple had actually moved into the home.
Founder of the Virgin Group, Richard Branson, has his own private island.
With a whole deserted piece of land to yourself, your security is basically built into the place. Talk about ultimate isolation and security.
