After a string of four Los Angeles area burglaries, police managed to arrest individuals suspected of connections to the incidents in early October. Although initially thought to be separate occurrences, detectives came to the conclusion that they were in fact, celebrity targeted burglaries. While police managed to prevent these specific crimes from progressing, it was reported 12 other celebrities were also targeted for future robberies, including LeBron James.

Celebrity Burglary Victims

The homes of Rihanna, Christina Milian, Yasiel Puig and Robert Woods were those victimized by these celebrity burglars. Some of the names on the list of future potential celebrity homes to burglarize included Matt Damon and Viola Davis, as well as LeBron James. On Oct. 2, Lillian Carranza, captain of LAPD’s commercial crimes division, had this to say;

“During recent months, the Los Angeles Police Department has become aware of a series of residential burglaries targeting actors, producers, musicians, and professional athletes living in the Los Angeles area. Initially, it was believed that these homes were being burglarized at random. However, detectives learned that this was not the case.”

LeBron James Home Security

LeBron James, who is a husband and father of 3, isn’t taking this situation lightly. It’s been reported that James has, “beefed up security at his L.A. home in a major way.” With actors, musicians, and especially athletes, out of their homes for a publically known and specific amount of time, leaving behind plenty of valuable items, it’s no surprise celebrities are often targeted for home invasion. Regardless of social status however, the most important step in preventing a burglary is a reliable home security system.

By closely monitoring these celebrities’ schedules through their extremely public and popular social media accounts, investigators believe this small gang of criminals was able to plan the best time of attack. The criminals were apprehended with a firearm as well as property belonging to L.A. Rams wide receiver, Robert Woods. Police eventually recovered jewelry, designer purses, watches, various luxury items, a vehicle and more than $50,000 in cash; amounting to millions of dollars in total value.

Protecting What’s Valuable

Just because a celebrity is away from their home however, doesn’t necessarily mean their family is as well. Although these criminals were clearly trying to avoid confrontation, they were in fact found with a gun. LeBron James has the right idea about, “beefing up security,” and arming your home with the proper prevention essentials. It’s not only necessary, it’s too easy not to. With security equipment like motion sensors, door/window sensors and cameras, you will know everything that is happening at your home from anywhere at the convenience of your smart phone. In fact, the celebrity burglars were identified by the footage caught on security cameras.
