At Protect America, we’ve put together a list of the 10 cities in Alabama with the lowest burglary rates.

We call these cities “Burglary Safe Zones.” We’ve also made a list of the 10 cities in Alabama with the highest burglary rates. We call these cities “Burglary Hot Spots.”

Our lists are based on data from the recent FBI Uniform Crime Report. We only counted cities that submitted burglary data.


2016 Alabama Burglary Safe Zones

  1. Bridgeport
    • Population 2,362, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Located in Jackson County, Bridgeport was founded as a riverboat landing on the Tennessee River in the 1840s.
  2. Helena
    • Population 18,109, Burglaries 11
    • Town trivia: Consistently lauded as an area low in crime, Helena is also known as the hometown of American Idol runner-up Bo Bice.
  3. Hackleburg
    • Population 1,483, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Hackleburg was 75 percent destroyed by an F5 tornado in 2011.
  4. Aliceville
    • Population 2,367, Burglaries 3
    • Town trivia: During World War II, Aliceville was the site of a prisoner-of-war camp. It held 3,500 German prisoners from the Afrika Korps.
  5. Heflin
    • Population 3,525, Burglaries 5
    • Town trivia: Heflin, Alabam is the count seat of Cleburne County. It was settled in 1882 as a railroad station on the line to Atlanta.
  6. Spanish Fort
    • Population 8,039, Burglaries 12
    • Town trivia: Established in 1712, Spanish Fort was originally the site of a French trading post.
  7. Margaret
    • Population 4,526, Burglaries 7
    • Town trivia: Hometown of Major General W. Dillard and footballer Sammy Price, Margaret was only formally incorporated in 2011.
  8. Lineville
    • Population 2,305, Burglaries 4
    • Town trivia: Alabama’s highest point, Mount Cheaha, is almost 20 miles north of Lineville.
  9. Mountain Brook
    • Population 20,801, Burglaries 38
    • Town trivia: Mountain Brook is one of Alabama’s most affluent cities. Mountain Brook is also the hometown of actor Courteney Cox.
  10. Alabaster
    • Population 31,821, Burglaries 64
    • Town trivia: Alabaster is named for Alabaster Lime Company, a distributor of calcium carbonate.

    • Town trivia: McIntosh is close to where Aaron Burr was arrested in 1807.
  2. Tarrant

    • Town trivia: Tarrant was named as the result of a contest in 1915.
  3. Anniston

    • Town trivia: Nick-named “The Model City”, Anniston is known for being beautifully situated on the side of Blue Mountain.
  4. Bessemer
    • Population 26828, Burglaries 567
    • Town trivia: Bessemer is the hometown of NFL and MLB player Bo Jackson.
  5. Grant

    • Town trivia: Grant is close to a historical cave named Cathedral Caverns.
