At Protect America, we’ve put together a list of the 10 cities in Minnesota with the lowest burglary rates.

We call these cities “Burglary Safe Zones.” We’ve also made a list of the 10 cities in Minnesota with the highest burglary rates. We call these cities “Burglary Hot Spots.”

Our lists are based on data from the recent FBI Uniform Crime Report. We only counted cities that submitted burglary data.

2016 Minnesota Burglary Safe Zones

  1. St. Joseph
    • Population 6,883, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Sister Annella Zervas, O.SB. is titled “Servent of God,” and is Minnsota’s closest resident to a Canonized Saint.
  2. Vadnais Heights
    • Population 13,352, Burglaries 2
    • Town trivia: Nearby Vadnais Lake is an official habitat for the nonprofit preservation company, Ducks Unlimited.
  3. Montevideo
    • Population 5,180, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Montevideo is not to be mistaken with the city of the same name in Uruguay.
  4. Melrose
    • Population 3,593, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Walter Breuning, who earned the title of “oldest man in the world” before his death was from Melrose.
  5. Shoreview
    • Population 26,475, Burglaries 8
    • Town trivia: Shoreview came in fourth place in Family Circle’s list of best town for families.
  6. Barnesville
    • Population 2,572, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Barnesville is known for its’ Potatoe Days festival, which is held each August.
  7. Mountain Lake
    • Population 2,141, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Mountain Lake is originally home to 1,800 low German Mennonites from Russia. (Or known as Plautdietch.)
  8. Hawley
    • Population 2,107, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Hawley has had six name changes between 1871 and 1872.
  9. Little Canada

    • Town trivia: Little Canada din’t become a city until 1974.
  10. Slayton

    • Town trivia: Slayton is the county seat of Murray County.

    • Town trivia: The maine route for the city is U.S. Route 212.
  2. Virginia
    • Population 8,635, Burglaries 83
    • Town trivia: The city as called “Queen City,” or “Queen City of the North,” as noted by a water tower in the middle of the city.
  3. Isle
    • Population 789, Burglaries 7
    • Town trivia: The 2010 United States census reported that 751 people lived in Isle.
  4. Minneapolis
    • Population 413,479, Burglaries 3,555
    • Town trivia: The artist formerly known as ‘Prince’ was born and raised in Minneapolis.
  5. Eveleth
    • Population 3,694, Burglaries 31
    • Town trivia: The U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame is in Eveleth.
  6. Brainerd
    • Population 13,384, Burglaries 110
    • Town trivia: Brainerd was the setting for the Coen brothers’ film “Fargo.”
  7. Hilltop
    • Population 737, Burglaries 6
    • Town trivia: Most of the Hilltop’s residents live in mobile homes across four trailer parks.
  8. Waite Park

    • Town trivia: The city is named after former state legislator, Henry Chester Waite.
